Women in Drones

FlyRoute is grateful for the contributions from our female drone pilots. Their ability to provide safe and high quality drone film has been a major asset to FlyRoute. Although women comprise just a small fraction of the commercial drone workforce, they are an inspiring and impressive group. There is a bright future for female pilots within FlyRoute and within the drone industry.

When Isabelle Schuester started with FlyRoute as a drone pilot intern in 2020 , she was confronted with an operational issue within the company. At the time, FlyRoute was incapable of utilizing its drone fleet to

provide film in inclement weather. This was due to the inability to control the drone camera from a covering in a fixed position. Isabelle quickly jumped into action and searched for a solution on the web. Isabelle discovered that when you drag your finger on our drone controller screen, you can freely control the camera movement from a fixed position. Issue solved!

Isabelle has since moved into FlyRoute's Drone Pilot position, and is on track to become a Senior Drone Pilot. FlyRoute can now reliably provide athletic film in all weather conditions, in part, due to Isabelle's problem solving skills. Thank you, Isabelle!

FlyRoute recognizes the contributions of all of our current women drone pilots: Anna Robbins, Lindsay Peters, Isabelle Schuester, and Gayle Kakac.

There are many organizations within the commercial drone space that have done an outstanding job in supporting women in drones and aviation as a whole. Two of those organizations are Women in Aviation and Women and Drones.

Women in Aviation International is an international nonprofit organization, which provides networking, education, mentoring, and scholarship opportunities for women and men in careers in the aviation and aerospace industries. It aims to promote public understanding of notable women in the aviation industry.

Women and Drones is an organization dedicated to driving excellence in the UAS/AAM industry by advocating for female participation in this dynamic segment of the global economy. The organization enables women to connect, collaborate and make global business connections.
